Thursday: The day started out innocently enough. Made a cup of coffee and snuggled up with my Olive girl for a quiet morning. Once 7:30am hit I knew the champagne needed to be opened. Let the day drinking commence! Growing up my mom and aunts always had mimosas on holidays. I’m so use to it that it is not a holiday unless I have a mimosa in hand.
Our day was spent outside. It’s been extremely cold lately but sunny. We utilized the sun by pulling out some toys and playing with the dogs. Mainly trying to get some of their energy out. Once we came back in the champagne was gone so what else would I do but move on to margaritas. It was a nice afternoon beverage to enjoy before the cooking got real serious.
I did help make one side dish. It’s a paleo stuffing recipe that we’ve slightly altered to be our potato side dish instead of candied yams or mashed potatoes. But do not be fooled by this point I’d opened a bottle of wine.
I think it goes without saying we were in bed by 8:30 not just from food comas.
Friday: Another day ready for the taking. To start out we had zero plans. I thought I would do a quick workout and maybe some laundry. We ended up going over to our friends house for the annual civil war game. Oregon vs. Oregon State. The husbands watched the game while us ladies chatted it up while enjoying a few mimosas, then caramel apple sangria, and then topped it off with wine. No night is complete without a wine night cap. But word to the wise, just because you had a bacon cheeseburger for lunch doesn’t mean you can skip dinner.
So night two ended early again with this girls husband dragging her home. Winning.
Saturday: By this point I’m feeling my poor choices. But alas we had a Winterhawks game and a possible Bon fire gathering. We ended up only going to the Winterhawks game but I did enjoy two beers there. Then pizza and beer for dinner. Nothing a little pizza and beer can’t fix.
Sunday: Needless to say I started really feeling the day drinking by this point. I decided to keep things under control by just finishing an entire bottle of wine.
It takes a trained proffessional to do what I do. Hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday.
Merry freaking Christmas!
Yesterday was adventure filled. L wanted to play around with his new side by side and I wanted to get a whimsical photo for our annual holiday card. Both goals were accomplished.
It’s was great to spend a morning being adventure seekers. Racing around to different waterfalls in hopes of getting that one shot. We’ve never taken our own photos seriously so we still have a lot to learn. We used L’s GoPro and mounted it on our tripod. Using our nice camera would have let us get better details of our faces but the GoPro is water proof. L even bought the tripod mount spicifically for this adventure.
In the photo above we’re at Abiqua Falls. If you intend on making the trip please bring an suv. I’ve seen cars make the trip down but I would HIGHLY advise against it. We’ve driven L’s suv down and he thinks that’s even pushing its limits. If you can park off the “main road” and use a four wheeler or UTV to get down I would suggest that. Our side by side owned the road getting down and we were able to go about 40mph. Not at all possible in a regular vehicle.
Here are a few photos from our adventure:

I’m really grumpy today. I’ve been trying to get myself out of this funk all day. Made fun weekend plans with my mom, dinner plans with friends and L, and even a full rest day scheduled. I’ve been drinking my lavender de-stress tea all day. Things were looking up.
Until after lunch. You know those people that can turn your day around in a split second? Yea, that was what I returned to right after lunch.
I just do not understand the need to be rude or unkind. I get frustrated a lot and hate when things are out of my control but it’s usually not the person on the phone fault. Just saying.
I’m still going to try to make it to the 5:30 class at the gym. I know it will help and I feel better after this brutal work out but wine sounds better.
I’ll keep you posted. Bitch fest over.
Monday morning came a lot faster than I like. This weekend was nothing special. Saturday L worked while I kept myself busy. Man we definitely go from one extreme to next around these parts. From about July to December 15th it’s all Christmas all the time and I 100% understand why he’s not too thrilled with Christmas everyday. (He prints the tags that are on fresh Christmas trees).
Saturday even we did sneak off to watch our Winterhawks. I’m still learning the rules of hockey but I’m more knowledgable every game.
Sunday we woke up and had a quiet morning. L baked a Sachertorte while I downed two bloody Mary’s. Still trying to decide if that was a good idea or not. We did go to the shop to help get an order out for trees going to Mexico. That felt pretty productive and fun while enjoying by buzz.
As uneventful as our weekend was I really loved it. We just took our time and there wasn’t a set schedule. It really made the weekend feel restful. Plus it was cold and rainy so I got to wear a beanie and no make up. Winning!
Cheesy selfie while freezing in the 35 degree temps at 8am.
Man. This weather has really got me. I hate being cold but I love layering more. And this season. Instantly the joy of Thanksgiving and Christmas is in the air.
I pulled out this wool coat finally. I’m excited but not ready at the same time. It’s hard to believe we’re already to below freezing temps at night and super cold during the day.
I’m usually one for no Christmas anything until after Thanksgiving but this year I can’t help myself. Yup, Christmas music has officially been downloaded to the phone. Something has just got me this year and I feel like I need Christmas right now.
We purchased our season passes for Timberline yesterday. Please everyone do your snow dance! Last year we were only able to go up 3 times. I need ski weekends this year! Especially since I convinced L to stay at the lodge the weekend of my 30th birthday. That won’t be as fun with zero snow.
Happy Thursday everyone! This week is almost in the bag.
So I’m still a very big work in progress with this whole spending freeze. I haven’t gotten a handle on not spending at all but I’m definitely more aware of where my money is going.
At the beginning of October I started using more cash. With the cash I started saving all the change and $1 bills. In the last month I saved up about $50 in just $1 bill. I’m so excited I decided to up the anti this month.
Starting this month I’m now going to save $5 bills along with my $1 bills. I’m not entirely sure what I’m saving for but I put the money in our vacation tin. This girl has dreams of Paris and I am going to make it happen.
Wayne’s world. Party time. Excellent.
This was our first year dressing up and I love that we picked something within our comfort zone. So far this Halloween was pretty low key and relaxed. We enjoyed a looooong night at a friends house. Then on Halloween I drove with my mom through the gorge. The drive was long, windy, and super rainy.
It’s weird but once Halloween has passed I’m ready for the coziness that winter brings. The next two months is all about warm layers, hot coco, and spreading the joy of the season. Up next is probably one of the best holiday’s, Thanksgiving. I love the meaning of Thanksgiving and how just having a big meal brings our loved one’s together.
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween. Bring it Christmas music!
